Celebrity IVF

Celebrities who have struggled with infertility

What do Mariah Carey, Sarah Jessica Parker, Chrissy Teigen and Kim Kardashian all have in common?

The obvious fact is that they are all celebrities, but did you know that they all struggled with their fertility? Sometimes trying to conceive is difficult, and this obstacle can even affect those considered glamourous and lucky.

Here are some celebrities who have shared their struggles – through natural pregnancy, IVF, surrogacy, and miscarriage – with the world. Remember, we are all human (regardless of where we live and how big our house is) and fertility isn’t a problem that discriminates.

Quote from FABLife in 2015:

“I will say, honestly, John and I are having trouble. We would have kids five, six years ago if it’d happened, but my gosh, it’s been a process! And we’ve seen fertility doctors … So, anytime somebody asks me if I’m going to have kids, I’m like, ‘One day, you’re going to ask that to the wrong girl who is really struggling, and it’s going to be really hurtful to them. And I hate that. So, I hate it. Stop asking me!'”

Kim Kardashian

Quote from Glamour in 2015:

“I didn’t know that I was going to be so open with [my fertility challenges], but meeting people at my fertility doctor’s office who are going through the same things I’m going through, I thought, ‘Why not share my story?’ It’s been really emotional … There are definitely times when I walked out [of the doctor’s office] hysterically crying, and other times when I was like, ‘Okay, everything’s looking good, it’s going to be this month!’ The waiting and waiting has been a roller coaster.”

Jimmy Falon

Quote from Today in 2013:

“We’ve tried a bunch of things … anyone who’s tried will know, it’s just awful … we had a surrogate. We tried before, we told people and then it didn’t happen, and it’s just really depressing, it’s really hard … We tried for a long time, for five years, but if there’s anyone out there who’s trying and losing hope, just hang in there. Try every avenue, try anything you can do because you’ll get there. You’ll end up with a family and it’s so worth it. It is the most worth it thing.”

Nicole Kidman

Quote from 60 minutes in 2011:

“Anyone who’s been in the place of wanting another child or wanting a child knows the disappointment, the pain and the loss that you go through trying … We were in a place of desperately wanting another child. I couldn’t get pregnant … I’ve had a very, very roller coaster ride with fertility. It has never been easy for me”

Celine Dion

Quote from Hello! in 2010:

“IVF is difficult emotionally”

Celine Dion and her husband attempted in vitro fertilization six times before getting pregnant with their son, Charles. Years later, the couple did IVF again to conceive their twin boys Eddy and Nelson, born in 2010.

Becoming a mother isn’t easy for every woman who wants a child, and obviously celebrities are no exception. We hope you found some comfort in knowing that you are not alone in your up-and-down, often emotional, journey.
