Foods That Can Help Improve Sperm Health

For men who are trying to father a child, what they eat might be more important than they think. That’s because there are certain foods that can improve the quality and motility of sperm. Almost 40% of fertility issues are associated with the male in the couple, and a fertility friendly diet may help couples conceive more easily.

The biggest concern isn’t one specific food, but rather the kinds of nutrients that are in certain foods. Here are some of the best nutritional ideas for better sperm health and production.

Folate is a nutrient that helps with the production of red blood cells. Fruit, whole grains, and dark leafy vegetables contain folate, and can help improve sperm production.

Vitamin B-12 is another great nutrient to help with sperm health. Yogurt, chicken, egg yolks and low-fat cheese all have this vitamin, which can improve motility and quantity when it comes to sperm production. It’s not just B-12, but the entire B complex that provides plenty of great benefits for men trying to conceive children.

Zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, and D-Aspartic acid (a type of amino acid) are also important for any man who’s working to improve his sperm health.

But what kinds of foods should men in this situation specifically be eating? Consider foods from the following list to provide better conception chances:

  • Oysters
  • Beef
  • Salmon
  • Walnuts
  • Tomatoes
  • Garlic

Just like the idea that there are healthy foods for better sperm production, there are also some foods men will want to avoid. Steer clear of:

  • Soy
  • Processed meat
  • High fat dairy
  • Anything that’s high in caffeine
  • Excess alcohol

Men who take their diet seriously, along with getting good exercise and following their doctor’s advice, may be able to improve their chances of conceiving a child, by working to make their sperm healthier, stronger, more numerous, and more mobile. That could make all the difference when it comes to whether they and their partner welcome a child.
