MALE FERTILITY IN SAN DIEGO
The treatment of male infertility is primarily based on the semen analysis results.
It is usually recommended to perform the semen analysis after 2 to 5 days of abstinence.
In cases where there are minor abnormalities of the semen analysis, intrauterine insemination (IUI) can be performed. In this procedure, the sperm from the ejaculate is washed and concentrated and placed inside the uterus around the time of ovulation.
In cases where the semen analysis results are very abnormal or IUI has been unsuccessful, in vitro fertilization can be considered.
Undergoing ICSI for Male Factor Infertility
In most cases, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is recommended in which a single sperm is injected into an egg. This procedure makes it so that conception is possible even with extremely low sperm numbers.
Some men have no sperm in the ejaculate, but in some cases it is possible to retrieve sperm from the testicles. A reproductive urologist who will be working closely with Dr. Hosseinzadeh performs these procedures. The sperm retrieved will be used in an IVF cycle with ICSI. For some patients, the cost of the fertility treatments may be prohibitive or they may choose not to proceed with ICSI. For these patients, the use of donor sperm is a valid alternative option.
