National Infertility Awareness Week 2022

April 24-30, 2022 is National Infertility Awareness Week®. This week of dedication to the struggle of infertility was started by RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, in 1989. The goal is to change the conversation that takes place around infertility. There’s a lot of misinformation around the issue, and plenty of myths circulating. But those things don’t help women and couples who are struggling. Instead, people who are trying to have a baby need good information about what steps they can take.

With a week of awareness, RESOLVE is helping anyone who is struggling with infertility feel less isolated. They’re focused on three main things, which are:

  • Enhancing public understanding, so infertility can get the attention and support it needs and deserves.
  • Ensuring that anyone who is trying to create or add to their family understands the guidelines to see a specialist who can help.
  • Educating lawmakers, so they can see the real impacts of infertility on the people in their state.

RESOLVE has chosen the color orange to represent National Infertility Awareness Week®. It’s used to promote passion, wellness, warmth, and a sense of shared emotional energy. Orange also helps with recovery from disappointment, and creates a boost in aspiration and socialization. In short, it’s a color that helps people feel stronger, happier, and more connected to others.

In 2010, the Department of Health and Human Services recognized National Infertility Awareness Week® on the federal level. Women, men and couples who are dealing with infertility are encouraged to find a community of support that works for them. They’re also encouraged to share their stories, in order to promote healing, raise awareness, and help others in the same situation understand that they’re not alone.
